Excerpt From Inside Cover Flap:
In one month Jeremy Fink will turn thirteen. But does he have what it takes to be a teenager? He collects mutant candy, he won't go more than four blocks from home if possible, and he definitely doesn't like surprises. On the other hand, his best friend, Lizzy, isn't afraid of anything, even if that means trouble now and then. Jeremy's summer takes an unexpected turn when a mysterious box arrives. According to the writing on the box, it holds the meaning of life! Jeremy is supposed to open it on his birthday, but the keys are missing, and only the keys can open the box without destroying what's inside. Jeremy and Lizzy set off to find the keys, but when one of their efforts goes very wrong, Jeremy starts to think he'll never be able to open the box. But what he doesn't know is that there might be other ways to find out the meaning of life.
My Review:
THE CHARACTERS. Jeremy. Lizzy. Jeremy's mom, Lizzy's dad, Mr. Oswald, James, everybody. I'm going to start with Jeremy, since the book was named after him and he's the main character and it's his POV and everything.
Truth is, if I were Jeremy it would be pretty cool. I mean, come on. The guy's got a mutant candy collection, which means he likes candy. (And boy does he like candy.) Then, he doesn't usually care what others think. His best friend's a girl. He gets judged. But does he ditch Lizzy? No. It would be nice to be like that, to not care. But then I wouldn't want to be Jeremy, because his father is dead. (NO THAT'S NOT A SPOILER. I PROMISE!) That would be horrible.
Lizzy. She's my favorite character because she's pretty much always there for everybody. This is getting hard to explain, so I'll just leave it at this: to understand her, you must read the book. And the book describes her as having red hair- but in my head it's BROWN. This is a circumstance where I just have to ignore the book and not let my imagery of Lizzy's hair disappear, because- because- it just isn't red.
As you learn in the first couple of chapters of the book, Jeremy's mom is a widow and Lizzy's dad is- well, he's not so much divorced. Just really, not married. To some romantic minds they may instantly just to the conclusion that they'll fall in love and get married and then Jeremy's mom, Jeremy, Lizzy's dad, and Lizzy will all live happily ever after.
See you guys later! Let me know in the comments if you've read this book, and if you haven't, then do you want to now?
