Hi, Anna!
Hi!
This is a really cliche question, but I'm going to ask anyway. What's your favorite book, and why?
I have lots of favorite books, but one that I really love is Shadow on the Mountain, by Margi Preus. I like it because I love historical fiction books and this is about a Norwegian spy in World War Two, so it's really interesting to read it from a spy's point of view.
Cool. What's your favorite series?
Harry Potter, along with the Lightning Thief series, the Mother-Daughter Book Club, one that I forgot...
The Series of Unfortunate Events?
Yes. That. But Harry Potter wins.
Did you like reading ever since you were little, or was there a certain event that made you love it?
I've loved it ever since I was little!
What's a book you read that you didn't like, and when you told people they were just like, "How could you not like that book?"
When I first started The Maze Runner, by James Dashner, I didn't really understand why everyone liked it. I thought they used a bunch of weird slang words and stuff and I didn't know what was going on. But I re-visited it and then I actually loved it!
Are there any books you have read where everyone was confused on how you enjoyed it?
Okay, um...*moves head back and forth* *raises eyebrows*
*whispers* Just say "I don't know!"
I'm not really sure; most of the books that I've read, Olivia's read too, so we kind of stand up for the books together.
*laughs*
*laughs*
Do you tend to like the "popular" books, or not?
I don't exactly know what type of book classifies as "popular..."
Like, The Selection, maybe? Or Hunger Games.
Yeah. Stuff that's popular nowadays, I don't like that much, except for The Maze Runner, and The Hunger Games.
I know you love to write. What's your favorite genre to write about?
Fantasy. *nods in defiance*
Is it the same as your favorite genre to read? Why or why not?
*both start laughing for some strange reason that we have no idea about now*
I like fantasy in writing and in reading, because it's just fun to imagine stuff that could never happen. I know that's cliche, but it's true.
Do you write in first or third person?
Third.
Past or present tense?
Past.
Okay, you're like the opposite of me!
I know...normally I do past tense, but sometimes I do present tense. Same for 3rd person and 1st person.
Does it annoy you when books are written in a tense that you don't use when writing, or do you not really care?
Don't really care.
Who's your favorite author?
*winces at the pain of having to choose*
...
...
Uh... J.K. Rowling.
It doesn't really have to be your favorite author, but what author (if any) has the same sort of writing style as you?
I think everyone's style is different, but mine has echoes of Lemony Snicket in it.
I knew you were going to say that!
Do you think writing tip books are helpful?
No. I hate them as much as I hate spiders. I don't like them because, it might feel different for you, but for me they're kind of telling you what you should and shouldn't do in your writing, and then it puts you down. I'd rather take advice from a real person who has read my writing than take advice from a piece of paper and a blot of ink. (No offense, writing tip book lovers!)
Would you rather write a book at the top of the Eiffel Tower or in a submarine under the sea? (Under the Sea makes me instantly think of Ariel. And Sebastian.)
Under the sea. It's just...cooler.
*squints* *decides to move on*
Do you sit down and tell yourself, "Okay. Now, write a good story!" or do you just let the ideas come to you and only write when inspiration strikes?
Usually I think of a really good lead or ending, and then I write from that. So, once I thought of this awesome ending for a story, and it was bouncing around in my head for two years before I actually wrote the story! *makes an ashamed face*
Okay. Now for the fun stuff!!
Who is your favorite Disney princess, and why?
Cinderella. I don't know why exactly, I guess that Cinderella may have been the first princess movie I saw, and I loved it so much I dressed up like her every Halloween.
Harry Potter or Hunger Games? Why?
She's joking. Don't be alarmed.
Hunger Games, because it's just much...better. Just kidding. Harry Potter!! It's more magical. I know that's cliche too, but it's true.
The beach or the mountains? Why?
Both. I have good memories in both places, and I don't want to choose just one.
Writing stories on paper with a pencil, or typing them on a computer? Why?
Writing with paper and a pencil, because it just seems more...real.
Like more tangible?
Yeah!
Penguins or flamingoes? Why?
Do you really expect me to choose??? Penguins slide down icebergs, and flamingos stand on one leg in a pond! They're pretty equal.
TV or iPad? Why?
I only watch like one TV show anyway, so iPad.
Bookmark or random scrap of paper? Why?
Hmm...if I'm at my house, I use a bookmark because I have a collection of like 5000 bookmarks, but if not, I dog-ear the page. But REALLY SMALL because I do not mistreat books. My mom was a librarian. (This should explain lots of things.)
Keep going or have this interview be over?
Am I supposed to answer that?
*both have a laughing fit*
Haha, that was a trick question. That concludes our interview!! Thanks, Anna, for doing this. It took lots of screams and laughs. (She says you're welcome. She's sitting here watching me type this. Not creepy at all. She says hi, and that you better comment!) :-) Thanks for reading!!!! See you soon.
