Pretty cool, huh? ;)
1) Do you have a specific place for reading?
Sort of. I usually read on my bed, propped up on my elbows. Even though I have a chair in my room, it's mostly filled with stuffed animals (on the days I don't fully make my bed) and I don't read there often. I also like to read on the couch or curled in an armchair in the living room.
2) Bookmark or random piece of paper?
This question definitely has mixed response. Bookmarks? I love 'em! I've collected so many over the years at book fairs, libraries, and sometimes just from the floor. (Why would someone drop a bookmark and not pick it up?? I don't know. But I help them out by taking it!) Then on the other hand, if I've just started a book and I haven't designated a bookmark for it yet, I'll just put in whatever's around: a sticky note. A napkin. A receipt. A folded piece of notebook paper. And then sometimes I'll just memorize the page number!
Some of my avid bookmark collection! Gotta love them bookmarks. ;)
3) Can you stop anywhere in a book or do you have to finish the chapter?
Definitely finish the chapter!!! I cannot leave in the middle of action! (Here's the conversation that usually takes place in my head when I need to stop reading...Me: Finish this chapter. *finishes chapter* Me: Okay, this one is short. Read this one, too. *finishes chapter* Me: Last one, I promise! *finishes chapter.* Me: One more?) But if I'm reading in bed and one of my parents comes in to turn off my light and say goodnight, then I try to read until a line break at least.
4) Music or TV while reading?
TV? No way. There's no way I could concentrate with that on. But music is another story. I LOOOOOVE music, and so does my family, so it's usually playing somewhere in my house. I've learned to tune it out if I don't want it on while I'm reading and it doesn't distract me. One of my favorite songs is Rhapsody in Blue, and since it's classical, I listen to it a lot while I read.
5) Do you eat or drink while reading?
Truthfully, yes. Also truthfully, not all the time. If I happen to be near goldfish crackers, I WILL eat them, and reading goes well with them. ;) But I typically read magazines while eating. Is that weird? Does anyone else do that?
6) One book at a time or several?
AT LEAST two. I try not to, but...but...oh! I'll blame school! Right now, I have to do a sci-fi project. I don't usually read sci-fi, and I'd rather be reading something else, so of course I have an "at home" book and an "at school" book. And, of course, my Jesus Calling is in process all year long. :)
ARGHH! I can't get my picture to be under this, so just scroll to the bottom of this post to see my "reading" pile right now. :(
7) Reading at home or elsewhere?
Pretty much only at home. I don't read in public settings, because I don't want to look unsocial (even though I'm more of an introvert anyway). I DO read in the car, though. Everywhere. We. Go. If we're driving down the street, I'll still grab a book. I'm so thankful I don't get carsick!
8) Read out loud or silently?
Hmm. It depends. If I'm in my room or around other people, definitely silently. But when I'm home alone, I sometimes read aloud to my dog. (She has no taste in books. She fell asleep during Little Woman, Anne of Avonlea, and A Wrinkle in Time!!) :) It helps when I'm reading a book with challenging vocabulary, like Little Woman, ^^ to read it out loud. That way, if I stumble over words, I can go back and correct myself easier than if my eyes were just skimming over them.
9) Do you read ahead or skip pages?
Um..............I might have flipped to the end in one...or two....or all of the mysteries I've ever read. And...um...remember that time when that character was about to die? You did that too, right? Went to the end to see if their name was still there? I had to know....
10) Breaking the spine or keeping it like new?
I try not to break the spine, and most of the time I don't, but it happens. Especially on this particular well-loved book...
Same problem as before. To the bottom!
11) Do you write in your books?
NO! HOW COULD I DO THAT TO A POOR INNOCENT BOOK??
Haha, just kidding. Yes, I write in my Bible. Also, in my English class we have to annotate books. :( So far I've annotated Stargirl, The Lightning Thief, and A Wrinkle In Time. But if I'm reading on my own, then no, I don't write in my books.
And that's the end! Wow. This was a really fun post! Thanks for tagging me, Emily!! Now, in the comments...
What are your answers to these questions?
Have a great day!! (Where I live, it's super cold and rainy today. It's supposed to turn into ice soon. Crossing my fingers for a snow day tomorrow!)
Until next time...
